Unshackle: Building Bridges
BUILDING BRIDGES FROM CHICAGO TO SPRINGFIELD
May 18, 2025
Unshackled: Building Bridges is proud to salute, Ronnie Carrasquillo Director of Operations and Supervisor here at UBB who—along with a powerhouse team from the Illinois Prison Project (IPP)—has been making moves that matter.
On Thursday, May 15th, Ronnie and the IPP all-stars took the 200-mile trip from Chicago to Springfield, Illinois, not for a photo op, but for real impact. Their mission? To speak directly to the Legislative Black Caucus about a cause that hits home for us all: the urgent need for legal representation for incarcerated people—many of whom have no voice, no advocate, and no hope beyond these efforts.
The IPP team included:
🔹 Jenny Soble – Executive Director
🔹 Marshan Allen – Director of Policy and Communications
🔹 Leonard Lewis – Former IPP client
🔹 Ronnie Carrasquillo – IPP Ambassador, former client, and our co-founder
🔹 Renaldo Hudson – Director of Education
This marks the second week in a row this team has taken the long drive to the state capital. And they’re not stopping—because when justice calls, they answer.
At Unshackled: Building Bridges, we tip our hats to the IPP for their relentless, passionate, and collaborative work. They don’t just talk about hope—they bring it to the people who need it most. For some, they are the only hope.
This is what building bridges looks like in action—reaching across prison walls, political aisles, and miles of highway to make change happen.
